Rev
John Shaw was ordained in June 1658 as the first minister. He
was deposed by the Bishop in 1661 but continued privately to officiate
among his people. He was imprisoned for alleged involvement in Blood's
Plot (1663) and he died in 1674. He had his own problems for in
February 1674 it was reported to the Presbytery that "though
the charge was great and vast, yet the quota to the minister is
small, being considerably short of £30 per annum, and that
even of it there are arrears due."
